Pondicherry Universityholds a special place in the Indian University System. In addition to the green campus, excellentarchitecture, state-of-the-art infrastructure, well-equipped laboratories, cosy workrooms forresearch and teaching, facility of online admissions, Credit-Based EvaluationSystem, more than ten thousandlearners in various disciplines, two off-campuses, one located in PortBlair (Andamans) and another at Karaikal, with two Constituent Colleges, one atPuducherry and another at Mahe add credit to Pondicherry University. Further,the campuses off the University are ICTenabled and provide an e-learning and e-connect environment, along with class coordination system, documentmanagement system as well as virtual class rooms.

The Hon'ble Vice-President of India &Chancellor of the University offers Internat Parliament to 10 students (5 Girls & 5 Boys) every year. The Chancellorin the capacity of Chairman of Rajya Sabha has extended invitation to a batchof students of the University to visit the new Parliament Building every year. The University is to sign an MoU with Indian Council forWorld Affairs (ICWA), New Delhi to import knowledge to thestudents on world affairs.

Admission

Self-supporting candidates of variouscategories as given belowmay apply directly using the link to the specialonline application form forForeign/NRI/OCI applicants.

Foreign Candidates: holds a Non-Indian passport

NRI:holds an Indian passport andparents have the status of Non Resident Indian

NRI with OCI: holds an OCI Card issuedby the Govt. of India This Brochure gives all details forAdmissions 2025 – 26. For more details about various P.G. and Integrated P.G. programmes of study and Ph.D. please visit the respective department profile andprospectus available on the website.

Children of French nationals shall not be considered for admissionunder the quota of non-residents.

Foreign/ NRI/ OCI applicants do not have to writethe Entrance Examination for admission to any of the courses. Applicants with educational qualifications outside India should upload copies oftherelevant certificates and mark sheets together with the Englishversion of such documents duly attested, if they are in a differentlanguage. Foreign students must have a VALID STUDENT VISA. The medium ofinstruction and communication is English for all courses except in specificlanguage departments.Proficiency tests in English are not prescribed as a condition for admission. However,all students shallbe able to read, write, comprehend and speak English fluently. Admissionto various

P.G. and Integrated P.G. programmes of study will be decidedby the Admission Committee of the respective department/centre.

Foreign students will be admitted at 25 per cent of the sanctioned strength in all PG programmeson supernumerary basis.

Application Fee

The application fee shall be paid online byfollowing the instructions available in the University website. The application fee for students fromNon-SAARC countries is Rs.9000/-. The application fee for students from *SAARC countries is Rs.4500/-.(*Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan,India, Maldives, Nepal,Sri Lanka).


Admission to Ph.D Programme

For admission to Ph.D. programmes the applicant should submitalong with the online application, the details of the proposed research. Admissionis subject to the recommendations of the Admission Committee of the concerned department andavailability of supervisors in the proposedarea of research in the department. Admission to the Ph.D.programme requires the student to have a VALID RESEARCH VISA.

 

The NRI, OCI and foreigncandidates who applyfor Ph.D. (Full- time) programme and fulfill therequired eligibility criteria for Ph.D. (Full-time) are exempted from theentrance test, but they shall give a seminar before the Admission Committee.


Study in India Program

Study in India Program (SIP) is open tostudents from abroad to study asemester/ two semesters of various courses available in the University ontransfer of credits basis. Before they apply under the SIP, students may informthemselves regarding the approval from their parent Institution for transfer ofcredits for courses to be studied in Pondicherry University. The students canseek assistance through e-mail prior to their application and arrival. Course details are madeaccessible to students and their respective advisors on University website formapping thesuitability and credit equivalence. Credits earned are to be transferred totheir respective Institutions within a month of the close of the semester. Forenrolling into the SIP, please send an application at least three months inadvance. Students have the option of choosing courses and credits from any ofthe relevant departments of the University. If your semester schedules aredifferent from our calendar, the specific department Head should be contactedto know whether you can still be accommodated especially for courses thatrequire lab work.

 

The SIP also offers customizedbespoke need-based short-term courses or study programs based on requestsfrom a University/ higher education Institution abroad. Such customizedprograms may be of shorter duration(1 to 5 weeks) for groups of studentsaccompanied by a coordinator from their institution. In addition toacademics, students can experience different facets of Indian culture. Assistance is provided to students to make their stay and experience comfortable and rewarding.

Online Applications for self-supporting students

Those who are not able to get theICCR scholarships are encouraged to apply directly using online application form on our website as we are a Central University and the feesare very affordable, with world-class facilities, subsidized by the Governmentof India.

Pondicherry University is oneamong only three institutions in India that offer M.Tech Computational Biologyfunded by the DBT DST. Self-financed foreign students are also welcome toapply. For details, please see Centre for Bio-informatics.


 

 

APPLICATION PROCEDURE ONLINE

Application form is to besubmitted online through the University website www.pondiuni.edu.in by following the instructions posted therein.

 

FILLING OF APPLICATION FORM

1.      Apply separately for each programme.

2.      TheCandidates have to submit application for each of theMBA programmes separately.

3.       Fill in all columnswith complete and correct information after going through the prospectus. Incomplete/ false/ wronginformation will entail rejection of application. Any claim based on wrong information, wrong course code, centre code,etc. will not be entertained at a later stage.

4.       Applicationforms are to be filledand submitted online,as per instructions in the University website: www.pondiuni.edu.in

5.        Due care shouldbe taken in filling the application form. Select correct course in the relevantcolumn which is veryimportant.

6.      All columns should be filled correctly and unambiguously.

7.     While filling in the qualification and marks, care shouldbe taken to provide the relevant marks/ grades.

8.     After proper fillingof the application form and paymentof fee online, candidates can download their printable application from theUniversity website by following the instructions therein.

 

GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION

 

·      Alladmissions are provisional, subject to verification of required documents, asper prescribed norms.

·      Anycourse (P.G. degree) may not be offered if sufficient number (at least 5) ofstudents are not available.

·      Thestudents will be required to take up a group health insurance (forhospitalization, etc.) through the University.

·      Admittedstudents are required to carry the University Identity Card at all times while they are inside the campus.

·      Studentsare instructed not to miss classes, since 70% of attendance is required toappear for the examination. Those who need accommodation in the hostels mustreport to their departments prior to registration and counselling.

·      TheUniversity reserves its right not to offer a course advertised, for anyadministrative or other reasons.


Admission Requirements for Ph.D. Programmes

Educational Qualification (Ph.D. Full-time)

Candidates of Indian origin or overseasstudents who have qualified for a Master’s degree of an accredited overseasuniversity securing a minimum of 55% marks (or equivalent grade).

 

Selection Procedure:

a)   Thecandidate would be required to give a seminar before the Admission Committee on theproposed topic of research in the concerned School/ Department/ Centre.The AdmissionCommittee/University may also adapt any other method of evaluation of the candidatewhich will also form the basis for considering the provisional admissionto the candidate. The Admission Committee/ University should be convincedof the potential of thecandidate to carry out research.

 

b)   Allthe Ph.D. applicants called for interview should submit at the time of interview,a clear written proposal of the researchto be conducted, givingsufficient back-ground material and the proposed line of research, and obtainthe consent of a research supervisor duly recognized by the University within the University area. Incase of candidates working outside the University area, a co-supervisor dulyrecognized by the University may be permitted, if necessary, in addition to theUniversity supervisor on the recommendation of the Doctoral Committee.

 

Mere possession of required educational andother qualifications and being called for interview alone cannot beclaimed as a right for admission to the Ph.D. programme in the University.

 

c)    Candidates admitted under MoU betweenPondicherry University and a university/institution in India or abroad wherespecific clause(s) exist for registration of candidates to PhD degree by the university and those selected underinternational cultural/educational exchange schemes of Government of India/UNbodies are exempted from taking the admission/entrance test.

 

d)    Non-resident Indians and foreignersresiding/ working abroad and workingin academics/ research/industry at least for tenyears after obtaining Master's degree, are also exempted from entrance test but they shall give a seminar in person/through videoconferencing before the Admission Committee which shall evaluate and give itsopinion about suitability of the candidate foradmission to the Ph.D. Part time (external) program. NRI and foreign candidates with enormous professional experience and having proven aptitude for the research exhibitedthrough publications will only be considered by the admission committee underthis clause. Their publications will be evaluated by the Department Committeebefore they are called for giving a seminar.NRI and foreign candidates who apply for Ph.D. (Full-time) programme and fulfill the required eligibility criteria for Ph.D. (Full-time) are also exemptedfrom the entrancetest, but they shall give a seminar before theAdmission Committee.

 Payment of Fees


All students shall pay all the fees to the University at the time of admission through online. For thesubsequent semesters, the fees should be paidwithin ten days from the beginning of each semesterthrough online. Examination fees shall bepayable on or before the last date prescribedin this regard. If the above dates fall on Saturdays or Sundays or any other holidays, the last date for payment of the above fees will be thepreceding working day.

 Differentlyabled students are exempted from paymentof all fees, including examination fees. Theyshould pay only the prescribed refundable cautiondeposits and Group Medical Insurance premium.However if they avail any scholarship fromGovernment/ other agencies, they are not entitledfrom exemption of fees

 SC/ST studentswho are eligible for Post- matricscholarships/Top class scholarships are permittedto pay the fees as soon as they receive thescholarship amount by submission of an undertaking to this effect at the time of admission. In any case, such SC/ST students shouldpay the fees within 90 days from the date of admission through the said scholarships failing which they have to pay the fees on their own or otherwise their admission stands cancelled.

 The Vice-Chancellor, or any other officer on his behalf, to whom this power has been delegated, may relax any of the conditions for payment of fees in special cases, on recommendation of the Academic Advisory Committee. The names of defaulters shallbe removed from the rolls of theUniversity with effect from the firstday of the following month. A studentwhose name has been struck off from the rolls of the University, under the above clause, may be re-admitted on the recommendationof the Dean/ HOD/ Coordinator of the Dept./Centre concerned and on payment of arrears of fees in full and other dues, together with a re-admission fee of `1000/- plus University Development Fund of ` 500/-.

Refund of fees,caution deposits, etc.

Cautiondeposit money is refundable, on an applicationfrom the student on his/her leaving theUniversity, after deducting all dues againsthim/her.


 

If any studentdoes not claim the refund of any amount lying to his/her credit within one calendar year of his/ her leaving the University, it shall bedeemed to have been donatedby him/ her to the Students’ Aid Fund. The period of one year shallbe reckoned from the date of announcement of the result of the examination taken by the student or the date from which his/her name is struck off from the rolls of the University whichever is earlier.

If, after having paid the fees, a candidate desires to discontinue he/ she shallbe refunded all fees after deducting `1000/- providedhe/she discontinues on or before the date notifiedby the University.

 

Ifa student owes any money to the University onaccount of any damage he/she may have causedto the University property, it shall along with outstanding tuition fees and fines, if any, be deductedfrom the security deposit due to him/ her.These provisions shall not apply to studentsin the affiliated colleges.

 

Students shall not be issued hall tickets or allowed to appear for examination unless they have cleared their dues, paid the prescribedexamination fee and produced a“No-dues” certificates.


           HOSTELS   

Foreign Students'Hostels

TheUniversity has air conditioned & non-airconditioned hostel rooms available for foreign students. 40 rooms are available in C.V.Raman Hostel for boys and 49 rooms are availablein Madame Curie hostel for girls.

 

Hostel fees structure will be provided separately.

Discipline

All hostel-related communications from the

hostelinmates to the University authorities shall be routedthrough the properchannel, i.e. throughthe wardens of the respective hostels and Chief Warden. Any subversive activity, misdemeanor, obnoxious behaviour, flouting of hostelrules & regulation, misconduct,disobedience, ragging, failure toclear dues, etc. shall be severely punished,and even result in dismissal from the hostelas well as from the department by the Universityauthority whose interpretation of the rulesshall be final.

 

A set of rules and regulations applicable to the inmates of the hostels will be given to each student at the time of admission into hostel.


Consumption of alcohol and narcotics is consideredas a serious offence. Therefore, intoxicatingdrugs or liquor should not be consumedin the campus. Smoking in the hostel premisesis prohibited. Fire-arms should not be broughtto the hostel in any case. Such acts will meanimmediate expulsion of the resident from the hostel.Accommodating outsiders/passed out students in the hostel leads to trespassing and such students will behanded over to the police for prosecution. Therefore, inmates must be carefulbefore entertaining outsiders.

 As per theUniversity hostel rules & regulations underclause 10.24, damaging University / publicproperty is illegal. It will be considered as an act of indiscipline and misconduct, and will be punished under Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984

 Mess

SubramaniaBharathi Hostel and Bharathidasan Hostelare managed by the research scholars and therest of the mess are outsourced. Five well- equippedmega mess (three for boys & two for girls) are available for dining by Hostel residentsthe use of the University. The hostel mess are run byexperienced and qualified caterers. The messoffer meals at reasonable rates.


 Ragging

Ragging orteasing in any form is strictly prohibitedin the University. Students are therefore,forbidden from indulging in such activities within the hostel premises. Raggingwill invite very severe punishmentincluding expulsion from the University. It is also punishableunder law. No introductory meetingof the students is to beheld in the hostels by the senior students.

 

General facilities

TheUniversity Health Centre offers medical facilities round-the-clock to the studentsresiding in the hostels. Forthe mobility of the students fromhostels to departments, Library, Computer Centre,etc., bus facility is provided within the campus.Wifi connectivity is also provided to all the hostelsto enable the students to have internetaccess.

 CONDUCT & DISCIPLINE


Pondicherry University has zero tolerance towards

(b)  Sexual Harassment


Students enrolled in Pondicherry University must abide by their duties andresponsibilities to the University, tofaculty and to other students. Failureto maintain appropriatestandards of conduct will attract disciplinary action.

      Students should not bring mobile phones to theSeminar Halls, Research Labs and Examination Halls and should not use mobilephones in the classroom.

 

Misconduct

Students’ misconduct includes but is not limited to thefollowing:

a)   disruption of classroom activity orhindering the learning of other students anywhere in the University;

b)   copying / cheating in examinations and assignments;

c)   behaviour which interferes functioningof the University, disrupts education, endangers the health or safety of staffor students, or damages any property within the campus including University property;

d)   pasting posters or conducting students’ meetings/ protests / processions within the campus without prior permission of theUniversity authorities;

e)   the possession or use of intoxicatingbeverages inside the campus;

f)    the possession or use of illicit drugsinside the campus;

g)   the falsification of documents orproviding false information in order to obtain admission to classes;

h)   the possession of weapons; and

a)                   the failure to return loaned materialsor settle dues to the University


Disciplinary MeasuresDisciplinary action may include:

a)    Reprimand or warning;

b)   failmark for an assignment or course;

c)    suspension for a semesteror more

d)   withholding of official transcripts;

e)    suspension of campus privileges includinghostel accommodation;

f)    suspension or expulsion from theUniversity;

g)   any other disciplinary action which the University authorities deem appropriate in the circumstances.

 

    Prohibition of Ragging

Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited.

 Senior students are notpermitted to invite their juniors to their rooms for any introduction meetings.

 In the past, six students (hostellers) whowere involved in ragging were expelled from the hostel for a period of oneyear.

 

           Redressal Mechanisms

The Anti - Ragging committee ofthe University consists of all Deans. The list of members with theircontact numbers is available on the University website

Students can report any incident of ragging tothe Registrar/Deans of respective Schools/Dean of Students’ Welfare/ ChiefWardens (Boys & Girls) directly for remedial action


2)  Students’ Grievances Redressal Cell Students can report any grievancesdirectly to the Dean, Students’ Welfare forredressal.

 

3)  Internal ComplaintCommittee (ICC)

Formerly known as the Sexual Harassment PreventionCommittee (SHPC), is the body responsible for handling complaints ofsexual harassment. The universityhas a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual harassment. Any sexual harassment complaint can be reportedto the Chairperson or any member of ICC for redressal.

4) Women’s Cell

Grievances relating to gender bias anddiscrimination affecting women in the campus can be reported to the Head ofWomen’s Cell and the list of membersof the cell with their contactphone numbers are availableon the University website.

 

5) Legal Services Clinic

‘Legal services clinic’ is setup inPondicherry University for the students ofthe institution and especially for the students hailing from NorthEastern states

 

6)  Proctorial Board

Pondicherry University established a Proctorial Board with a missionto inculcate discipline among the students, ensure zero tolerance ofindiscipline, prevent the students from indulging in any anti-socialactivities, maintain orderliness and ensure Peace & Harmony, facilitate asustainable, congenial atmosphere for the students and to ensure the safety andsecurity of Stakeholders of the University, assets and establishments,etc.  The board has the power to takeimmediate disciplinary action on any breach of discipline by a student(s).
